As you well know, following Old Merchant Taylors' in the Cricketer Cup is a roller-coaster ride with rather more lows than highs. In a cricketing sense, yesterday represented one of the lows. We were outplayed by a St Edward's side which played well on the day, but not so well that we should have conceded without putting up a much stiffer fight. We are left with too many regrets from our loose fielding which gave away 10 to 20 runs, our bowling which lacked penetration in what appeared to be bowler-friendly conditions in the morning and most particularly, by our failure to show the same discipline and composure in our batting which St Edward's had shown earlier.
For me, the stand-out positive to come from the day was the tremendous OMT support. Yet again, we surpassed ourselves. By my reckoning there were at least 40 OMT supporters who travelled to Oxford, and there may well have been several more that I've forgotten. This made it a wonderful social occasion and helps to give the Cricketer Cup competition a very special feel unlike any other League or Cup competition in which our players regularly participate.
I do hope that you will all continue to support the efforts which Philip, Jawwad and others have made to strengthen our performances in the competition. Much has already been achieved in terms of organisation, but as ever, there is always more to do...
See you next season!
