Old Malvernians are the current holders and rank second in the Cricketer Cup Order of Merit having won the cup on seven occasions and 70% of their matches overall since the competition was founded in 1967. The leading side is Old Tonbridgians who have won the cup on 14 occasions and 80% of their matches. Malvern and Tonbridge have kept the trophy to themselves in the last five years, so time is certainly ripe for change!
By comparison, OMT has reached the semi-final on two previous occasions, losing to Old Wykehamists in 1982 and Old Cliftonians in 1987. This leaves us 18th in the Order of Merit. The full listing may be found here http://www.thecricketercup.org.uk/images/stories/pdfs/orderofmerit_09.pdf .
Over the years 15 county players have appeared for Old Malvernians. We anticipate that former Middlesex wicket-keeper David Nash and Gloucestershire all-rounder Mark Hardinges are in the current squad.
For anyone who is interested in seeing how Malvern and the other semi-finalists have progressed this year, the results may be found at http://www.thecricketercup.org.uk/images/stories/pdfs/2011_draw.pdf .
