CRICKETER CUP SECOND ROUND 1 JULY 2018

On a very hot day, the second round of the Cricketer Cup saw two very close games, some fine individual performances and the last three winners of the competition all through to the quarter-finals. In the top half of the draw, at Sherborne, Old Cranleighans, winners in 2014, took 50 overs to compile 162-9, but Sherborne Pilgrims could only make 159 in 37 overs to lose by 3 runs. Old Tonbridgians batted first at Eton with Tom Elliott again in the runs for 60 in the Tonbridge total of 180, Will Vanderspar taking 4-28. Eton Ramblers won by 4 wickets with overs to spare, Ed Farley top-scoring with 45.

The holders, Old Wellingtonians, made 234-9 at Rugby, after being 30-3, Adam Dewes making 88. Rugby Meteors could only muster 101 in reply, JJ Dewes taking 5-9. They now play Old Bedfordians who had a terrific game at Radley. Radley Rangers made 271-6, the Dalrymple brothers both batting well, Simon with 85 and Jamie 71. This formidable total was chased down by Bedford with an over to spare, Shiv Patel making a magnificent 141 not out off only 116 balls.
Old Malvernians, winners in 2015 and 2016, had a walk over Harrow Wanderers, who could not raise a team despite having won their first round by 9 wickets. Malvern now play Oundle Rovers who romped home at Bradfield. Bradfield Waifs made 212 all out in 49 overs, Angus Atkinson making 91. Oundle achieved this target in 44 overs to win by 9 wickets, Greg Smith making 90 not out, George Johansen 79 not out and Harry Ramsden 40 to complement the three wickets he took earlier.
A very close game at Uppingham saw Uppingham Rovers win by 4 runs against Shrewsbury Saracens. Uppingham batted first and were all out for 153 in 38 overs, extras being top score with 48, of which 43 were wides. Shrewsbury could not reach this target, being dismissed for 149 in 42 overs, with B Price left stranded on 50 not out and A Stroud taking 5-36, including the last two wickets in consecutive balls.

Uppingham now play St. Edward’s Martyrs who had a comfortable win over Felsted Robins. St. Edward’s made 234-5 off their 50 overs, AJ Woodland scoring an unbeaten 106 and Will Bull 41. Felsted were all out for 174, Reece Hussain making
53 and Hugh Rogers taking 3-27.
